Tufts University Professor Moon Dunchin will discuss her work on mathematical interventions in gerrymandering
Many aspects of the redistricting problem are amenable to mathematical analysis. How can shape analysis of districts be sensitive to politically salient information about the population? Does "automatic packing" doom city dwellers/Dem voters/minority voters to redistricting disadvantage? By what standards can we judge algorithmic sampling of the space of possible plans? I'll propose a few ideas for new interventions.
