QSS Major Kate Pimentel '25 awarded a prestigious Rangel Graduate Fellowship

Kate Pimentel '25, a fourth-year Dartmouth student majoring in Quantitative Social Science, has been awarded a prestigious Rangel Graduate Fellowship, a program funded by the U.S. State Department to support students pursuing careers in the Foreign Service. The fellowship provides up to $42,000 per year for two years of graduate study. Kate, who will be the first in her family to earn a master's degree, sees her fellowship as a significant step toward her goal of a diplomatic career.

Kate said this when asked about QSS and her graduate school plans: "One thing that comes to mind is the impact of the QSS program on my applications for both the fellowship and graduate schools.  The skills I gained in data science, statistical analysis, and research design through my QSS classes helped me discover the intersection of data and policy. And the importance of data-driven policymaking, particularly through policy evaluations and the data analysis required for policy proposals. Familiarity with programming and statistical analysis languages is always a great advantage!"
