In a "New Yorker" column, Rockmore, the William H. Neukom 1964 Distinguished Professor of Computational Science writes about three renowned mathematicians-- John Conway, Ronald Graham, and Freeman Dyson--whom he knew and admired. "On their journeys, these playful, curious mathematicians discovered Monsters and numbers so large that they can hardly be written down. ... They will be missed," he says.
