Robert Shumsky, a QSS steering commitee member, has recently published an article in the Harvard Business Review on "What Safe Shopping Looks Like During the Pandemic". In this article he and his co-author Laurens Debo describe "three principles" for helping retailers implement social distancing that they have come up with based on their own research, funementals of operation management, and information on how the disease is transmitted. They also explore how the implementation of principles such as these are impacting the bottom line of retailers who are struggling to keep their businesses afloat while keeping their customers and employees safe during this time.
