QSS 45 poster session

The students in Professor Herbert Chang's fall quarter course on machine learning in the social sciences (Quantitative Social Science 45) gathered on November 18 in Rockefeller Center's Hinman Forum to present posters of their final projects. The poster session was attended by faculty and staff with whom the students were eager to share the results of their studies that ranged from the evolution of Taylor Swift's music to air pollution in Thailand to catch optimization in football and to Disneyland Florida vs California. The students in QSS 45 learned that it was no easy task completing an in-depth project within a 10-week term, but they enjoyed the course and reported that it was well worth their time and effort. Several QSS 45 students will be using their projects as either a springboard toward a senior thesis or, for students just beginning at Dartmouth, as a first step towards a broader research agenda in a subject they are passionate about.
